Helping Women to Heal
A VIDEO INTERVIEW PRESENTED BY WCIU’S WOMEN’S INSTITUTE FEATURING Kristy botha and mary lederleitner Often people think about faith deconstruction as a bad thing, a process that will cause people to turn away from God. But what if faith deconstruction can become a pathway for healing and deeper discipleship?
We are in a season when many women have experienced hurtful and sometimes traumatic experiences as they have participated in churches. Because of this a growing number of women are now questioning if they should just “opt out” and no longer be part of a congregation.
This video shares the thoughts and insights of Kristy Botha, a New Zealander who served for many years as a church planter in Australia, the UK and South Africa. When public scandals began emerging about the church planting ministry she and her family had belonged to for years, it rocked her faith and many others.
The heartbreaking allegations about people she had trusted left her needing to sort out what was genuine, true and good from what was counterfeit Christianity. She needed space to rediscover what she truly believed and why.
Through this challenging season she learned much that can help people walk with those who might be hurting, as they seek to help them navigate these sacred spaces of faith deconstruction in ways that can often culminate in a deeper and more genuine discipleship journey.
