Graduate Certificate for Global Women’s Empowerment
In this certificate program women and men explore how to grow into their full God-given potential as leaders, how to lead together, and how to bring the best out of one another to further the missional impact of organizations and ministries.
Program Overview
When women and men both grow to their full potential as leaders, everyone wins. Research shows that when women are able to lead alongside men companies earn more money, wiser decisions are made, communities flourish, children and families prosper, and the overall well-being of people in nations improve.
Most development organizations, nonprofit organizations, and companies rise or fall based upon the depth of their leadership pipelines. This certificate equips and enables people to see the untapped leadership potential within themselves and others around them and develop those capacities in a wide variety of fruitful and culturally engaging ways.

Course Information
The Graduate Certificate in Global Women’s Empowerment is made up of the following four courses.
Course Descriptions
GWE 510 - Women in Development
Women in Development showcases ways for women to move out of poverty through micro-finance initiatives, job training, and creative small business development. It also highlights ways people are addressing barriers that hinder girls from staying in school, and the impact that remaining in school can have in ending generational poverty while simultaneously increasing a wide range of health benefits for themselves and their families in the coming years.
GWE 610 - Women And Men In Leadership
Women and Men in Leadership lays a foundation for men and women to work well together as leaders. It gets at biases that hold back women from pursuing higher levels of employment, and that hold men back from considering them for these roles. It equips people to understand roots of gender inequality and how to contextualize better approaches for their unique cultural backgrounds and situations.
GWE 620 - Spirituality of Women And Men In Transformative Leadership
Spirituality of Women and Men in Transformative Leadership fosters greater well-being in students and enables them to facilitate the growth of well-being in others. It also has a strong focus on issues that further peacemaking within and across nations, and across cultural and ethnic boundaries, equipping people to better navigate societal issues that create conflict and cause harm to others.
TUL 645 - Resourcing Organizations For Social Impact
Resourcing Organizations for Social Impact equips students to be able to effectively navigate the world of finance and philanthropy, so essential for achieving all of these UN Sustainability Goals. As recent Lilly Family School of Philanthropy shows, “Women are giving more frequently and across a wider range of causes, with strong emphasis on health, justice, and inclusivity.” 3 Wealthy philanthropists such as Melinda French Gates are investing funding in global women empowerment issues. In a recent article in Forbes she explained, “We’re at the cusp of what some have called the Great Wealth Transfer. Women are poised to inherit trillions of dollars by 2030, which means they’ll soon control more wealth than they ever have before.” 4 Historically women are more frequently the ones who make the giving decisions for families, and they regularly give more to faith-based and issue-based causes. As such, both women and men need to be equipped to effectively engage with this growing area of philanthropy.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A GRADUATE CERTIFICATE AND THE MA IN TRANSFORMATIONAL URBAN LEADERSHIP?
Answer coming soon…
Will a graduate education help me move up in my organization even at the Certificate level?
While it is true that advanced degrees do not lead to climbing the organizational ladder in cross-cultural NGOs, increased effectiveness does. Consider that you will be better equipped during and after your time at WCIU.
My bachelor's degree has not trained me Biblically, or to work with cultural/historical data. Am I still able to do the program?
We have a more post-modern, cross-cultural approach than other similar programs where one size does not fit all. So, yes, often it is helpful to not have pre-packaged answers before starting the program. These areas will be developed in each student as part of the degree.
I work full-time, or my ministry keeps me going non-stop. Is WCIU’s Graduate level certificate program flexible enough for me?
The WCIU student is part-time and meets with students online. If a student is able to manage with their schedule, full-time is certainly possible.
if I complete a certificate, can I still do the Master' degree?
Yes! If you complete one of our Certificate Programs and decide you want to continue your education, you can apply the credits you earned in your Certificate Program to a Master’s Degree at WCIU.
Can I do more than one certificate?
Yes!
