Degree Programs

William Carey International University offers M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in International Development, as well as Insight, a one-year course for beginning college students.

Our degree programs focus on the work of voluntary organizations in the holistic development of the world’s people throughout history and at the present time. WCIU’s degree programs are:

Field-based: You may complete your degree on campus or at a distance -- wherever you are -- provided a local mentor (or a 3-person committee for Ph.D. students) and library or field resources are available.

Mentored: You will have a mentor to guide your studies, whether on or off campus.

Integrated: WCIU’s holistic approach to development includes social, cultural, spiritual, economic, educational, and technical aspects of life. The M.A. program integrates many academic disciplines. Even Ph.D. specializations draw on more than one field.

Applied: Term papers and individualized studies let you focus on issues relevant to your life and work. Core readings provide the context for a well-rounded education needed in today’s complex world.

The Master’s program is offered in modular format for working adults who want to enhance their education and become better prepared for life in the 21 st century. Our interdisciplinary modular approach helps you understand how the world’s peoples have developed over time and how their diverse cultures and worldviews influence events in the modern world.
