International Applicants
It is the philosophy of WCIU to encourage international applicants to remain in their current context for study, rather than relocate to the U.S. for study. International applicants with special recommendations from partner NGO’s may be accepted on a case-by-case basis, and must meet all the usual qualifications for admission to the programs for which they are applying. In addition:
- International applicants must have proof of U.S. citizenship or be eligible to obtain a student visa. It is the responsibility of the student to make appropriate visa arrangements to study and reside for the duration of the program. Students without appropriate documentation will not be permitted to take classes or remain in campus housing.
- Applicants must provide to the WCIU Admissions Office either an official transcript of the highest level of studies completed or a letter from the Registrar of their current school indicating the degree being pursued, year in the program, and current good standing.
- Applicants must score 550 or higher on the hand-written TOEFL or 213 on the computerized version completed within the past five years. The TOEFL, offered in most countries, is administered by TOEFL/TSE Services, P.O. Box 6151, Princeton, New Jersey 08541-6151, USA. Phone: 609-771-7100. The WCIU code number is 4983. Exceptions to the TOEFL requirement must be approved by the Admissions Committee and generally are granted only to those who have passed similar internationally recognized tests of English.
- International applicants whose native language is English and whose prior education was taken in certain specified English-speaking countries where most speak English as their first language are exempted from the TOEFL upon approval. U.S. immigrants whose native language is not English may be asked to write the TOEFL if their English skills appear weak. Details are available from the Office of Admissions and Records.
