Ph.D. Program

Thank you for considering WCIU’s Ph.D. in International Development. Our program provides an interdisciplinary approach that focuses on identifying the basic roots of human problems and identifying long term solutions. This program is designed for mid-career professionals seeking to engage in humanitarian service, research, program development and direction or training of personnel in the broad field of international development.

Acceptance for our PhD program in International Development was paused in the fall of 2015 due to WCIU reaching capacity in regards to our faculty and staff. If you would like to be notified when we re-open applications, please let us know at admissions@wciu.edu.

Admission is granted to those who meet the University-wide admission qualifications and whose records indicate their ability to pursue advanced study and research in line with the research goals of WCIU faculty.
In addition to University-wide requirements, specific admission requirements are as follows:
Applicants must be referred by a voluntary agency involved in cross-cultural service.
Applicants must have been in good standing at the last institution attended.
An appropriate master’s degree in a related area from a regionally accredited institution or comparable institution recognized by WCIU.
A GPA of 3.5 or above in the master’s degree or equivalent, or similar high standing from foreign institutions.
Evidence of a substantial background in the expected specialization within the broad field of international development.

International Applicants are defined as those who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents (Green Card holders). International Applications must meet all of the usual qualifications for admission. WCIU is authorized by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services to provide non-immigrant alien applicants the I-20 form needed to obtain a student visa. Notice to Prospective Degree Program Students

This institution is provisionally approved by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education to offer degree programs. To continue to offer this degree program this institution must meet the following requirements:

• Become institutionally accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education with the scope of the accreditation covering at least one degree program.

• Achieve accreditation candidacy or pre-accreditation, as defined in regulations by 7/1/2017, and full accreditation by 7/1/2020.

If this institution stops pursuing accreditation, it must:
• Stop all enrollment in its degree programs, and
• Provide a teach-out to finish the educational program or provide a refund.

An institution that fails to comply with accreditation requirements by the required dates shall have its approval to offer degree programs automatically suspended.
