1. How do I find a prospective mentor?

The first step would be to understand the role of the mentor.

Please read the Mentor Guidelines.

Next, one should consider his or her immediate current contacts. Do you have an NGO supervisor, pastor, or executive who holds an M.A. degree? Are you already in a mentoring relationship with someone?

If the answer is no, consider asking those in your current sphere for referrals to other supervisors, pastors, or organizational executives with a common mindset who might be qualified and who might be a good fit.

2. Do I have to come to Pasadena to take this program?

No. The Global Civilization program was, in fact, created for people who are often mid-career, heads of families. We do not expect nor encourage any time in Pasadena for your studies.

At the same time, we welcome visits from our students and mentors.

3. Can I take just a class or two at WCIU?

At this time, WCIU is not offering any individual courses. All students must be accepted into either the MA Program or the PhD Program to take courses.

4. Do you have a BA program?

WCIU does not offer a BA program, however Northwestern College offers the same curriculum used in our Global Civilization program at the Bachelor’s level. See http://nwc.edu/display/582.

5. What kind of organization qualifies as an NGO?

An NGO is a Non-Profit Organization working toward particular objectives for the good of society or to serve particular groups of people. NGO activities range from research, information distribution and training, to local organization, community service and more. WCIU’s constituents are primarily faith-based NGOs.

6. How long does it take to complete the MA?

Three to four years if you can work 10-15 hours/week year-round. However, you may set you own pace and finish quicker. To learn more, download the following documents: We Want You to Succeed, Counting the Cost, and Global Civilization Quarterly Enrollment Pace.

7. What is your application deadline?

We have four application deadlines:

January 1, April 1, May 1, and October 1.
