Who was William Carey?

WCIU is named after William Carey, a brilliant Englishman who devoted his life to the peoples of India. He served in a broad context of development, integrating educational advancement, social and religious reform, scientific research, agricultural innovation, literary studies, and translation work. Carey believed the peoples of India would be best served, not by making them become Europeans, but by providing knowledge of their own traditions and new skills to enable them to determine their own culturally appropriate path to development.
